A jury is scheduled to hear closing arguments Tuesday in a federal whistleblower case involving Flint’s mayor and the city’s former administrator.
Natasha Henderson was hired by one of Flint’s former emergency managers to oversee the city’s day-to-day business. She was eventually fired by Mayor Karen Weaver, after control of city hall shifted from the state to the city’s elected leaders.
But Henderson claims her firing was connectedto the fact that she raised questions about money donated for the city’s water crisis allegedly being shifted to a political action committee fund controlled by the mayor.
On the stand last week, Weaver claimed she fired Henderson after losing trust in her. The mayor claims Henderson did not inform her about a deadly Legionnaires' disease outbreak.
Henderson filed alawsuit under the federal Whistleblower Protection Act a few months after she was fired. Thelawsuit was dismissed in a 2017. However, the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals reinstatedportions of the lawsuit in 2018.
