Ingham county is considering a proposal that would allow people to keep goats in urban areas.

The proposal would allow up to three miniature dairy goats on residential properties.

County Commissioner Todd Tennis says the proposal, "will allow residents in urban areas to have another source of milk and another animal companion."

Commissioner Tennis confirmed that citizens are in favor of the proposal. He says, "according to a testimony we heard it was seen as another step towards urban agriculture and getting food closer to where it needs to be."

Animal Control staff and County Commissioners will continue discussing land and shelter requirements for dairy goats in urban areas during their March 25th meeting.
