Insider tips on best bike routes in Northern Michigan

Courtesy of Robert Downes
The Leelanau Trail is 17 miles and connects Traverse City and Suttons Bay.

Bicycle paths are expanding every year in Michigan. In the northern part of the Mitten, there are a bunch of great bike paths and there’s a book to help guide you.

Robert Downes’"Biking Northern Michigan: The Best & Safest Routes in the Lower Peninsula"  describes 1,400 miles of bike paths and attractions along the way.

In the introduction, Downes writes about his biking through Australia, Central America, South Africa, Europe, and Asia. Then he says, “Nothing compares to Northern Michigan when it comes to being one of the finest cycling regions on earth.”

Here Downes takes viewers on his rides through Northern Michigan.
