The party doesn’t stop after Gilmore Festival concerts end! Throughout this year’s Festival, keep the music going long into the night with Gilmore After Dark events at venues around Kalamazoo. Grab a drink or bite to eat and enjoy performances by exciting jazz and classical artists, including pianist, vocalist, and songwriter Bob Mervak.
Mervak has been an active member of the Detroit music scene for nearly three decades. His unique style encompasses pop and jazz, rootsy indy original songs and Ben Folds-esque intelligent, introspective, and unapologetic compositions. Bob has been a session musician, writer, and arranger on many varied record releases over the years. He was the main composer for fellow Michigander Dax Shepard’s motion picture Hit and Run as well as Shepard’s podcast Armchair Expert, and he was featured as a pianist and vocalist in George Clooney’s political drama The Ides of March.

The evening will begin with a celebratory dinner honoring Larry J. Bell at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, followed by a rare and captivating solo performance by 2026 Larry J. Bell Artist Award Recipient Sullivan Fortner. Fresh off receiving the inaugural Bell Artist Award, Fortner revisits the spirit of his Grammy-nominated album Solo Game — a kaleidoscopic journey across acoustic piano, Fender Rhodes, Hammond B-3 organ, and other keyboards. Blending jazz, gospel, and modern improvisation, Fortner moves fluidly between soulful lyricism and bold harmonic exploration, revealing why he’s regarded as one of today’s most imaginative and expressive voices in jazz.
For International Jazz Day (April 30th), 2026, multi-instrumentalist Vincent York and the Jazzistry Band will present an event illustrating the international roots of jazz, conceived in the USA, but now beloved and performed worldwide. Vincent and company will present an all-ages concert tracing the multicultural origins of jazz and modern music, from the rhythms of enslaved Africans tempered with European melodies. Savor stories, rare photos, demonstrations, explanations of different rhythms, instruments, and eras of jazz. Vincent and the band trace the evolution of jazz from field hollers and work songs to marches, spirituals, gospel, the blues, ragtime, early jazz, swing, bebop, soul jazz, hardbop, cool jazz, contemporary jazz, and hip-hop. This International Jazz Day concert will be an extended version of the program Vincent and the band present at area schools and community centers. Jazzistry, which combines Jazz + History + Artistry, makes learning about a worldwide phenomenon fun!

With two musical parents who were involved in the church, it was only natural that gospel music would become a major influence on Chestnut’s musical development, showing him not only how to be a better player but also how to connect with audiences. His original compositions are the heart of his latest album, Rhythm, Melody, and Harmony, on which he demonstrates his signature blend of rhythmic precision, emotive expression, and improvisational mastery.

The program reimagines Hill’s melodic and rhythmic ingenuity through a spirited blend of swing, hard bop, and imaginative ensemble interplay. The jam session starts on the second set.
Woodbridge Pub has a great menu… cash bar and a great staff. Also, excited to announce the new performance stage and outside ambience across the street from the Pub. Enjoy Jazz, cocktails and dinner under the stars. Although table and benches are available, feel free to bring your own lawn chairs
