National Republican Party leaders say they plan to target three incumbent Michigan Democrats in next year’s Congressional elections.
The National Republican Congressional Committee helps elect GOP candidates with direct financial contributions, as well as technical and research assistance. The group also organizes voter registration and election turnout programs.
Last week, the NRCC put Rep. Dan Kildee(D-Flint) on its list of 2022 midterm election targets. Rep. Elissa Slotkin(D-Holly), and Rep. Haley Stevens(D-Rochester Hills) were already on the NRCC’s list.
Kildee is unconcerned.
“You know it’s up to the voter. It’s not up to the Republican National Campaign Committee to decide who Michigan sends to Congress,” says Kildee.
Kildee easily won re-election in 2020.Slotkinand Stevens retained their seats by narrow margins last year.
Michigan is expected to lose a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives next year based on the results of the 2020 U.S. Census.
It’s unclear at this point what the boundaries of Michigan’s congressional districts will look like after new district lines are drawn.
