A bipartisan state elections board meets Friday to decide if the campaign to ban political committees linked to utilities and public contractors has gathered enough signatures to qualify for the November ballot.

This year’s election certification went relatively smoothly and without drama compared to 2020, when lies and conspiracies about the election being stolen took hold.

The board cast a unanimous 4-0 vote to certify. The meeting was not as raucous or noisy as the one finalizing the one finalizing 2020 presidential election.

The votes have been counted, but they’re still not official. County boards have begun the process of certifying Michigan's November election results.

The board does not cast votes on the petitions themselves; its job is to review the summaries to make sure they're accurate descriptions of the petitions' full text.
