Wayne State University School of Medicine’s chapter of the Student National Medical Association/Black Medical Student Association is proud to host its 36th annual Reach Out to Youth.

We invite children ages 7-11 and their parents to participate in this free program, featuring engaging and inspiring workshops designed to encourage Detroit-area youth to explore careers in the medical profession.

Our hope is that Reach Out to Youth will play a meaningful role in inspiring and supporting every child who dreams of becoming a doctor one day, helping them see a future for themselves in medicine and the health sciences.

Join Cultivating Futures for our end-of-year celebration honoring the growth, confidence, connection, and resilience developed through Power MoveMent and movement-based learning.

This community celebration brings together students, families, educators, community partners, supporters, and leaders to learn more about the impact of movement on youth well-being and celebrate the journey from movement to mastery.

Guests will hear youth, family, and community stories, learn more about the Power MoveMent program at Brookwood Elementary, and discover how they can help us expand access to movement-based programs for children and families.

Arts and crafts community event featuring 50 artisans with their homemade goods for sale. Show includes door prize drawings for customers, concessions, baked goods, face-painting and a kids craft corner. A portion of all proceeds are donated to Hope Clinic in Ypsilanti, MI

Expanded programming hours every 4th saturday with a focus on family-friendly activities and fun

Changes over the course of the nineteenth century in how Americans voted, from voice vote to public ballot box to private voting booth, also saw changes in the material culture that surrounded voting. Ballots and ballot boxes, campaign pins and ribbons, blank lists and pre-printed party tickets, lanterns and banners–the creative forces of the American print industry filled the country’s cities and small towns with the ephemera of electioneering.

As you look at the items in this exhibit, think about what they tell us about how Americans in the past felt about voting, and about how voting felt. How did Election Days feel when they were full of parades and music and public drinking? What was it like to vote when everyone around you knew who you voted for? And, most of all, who counted as a voter, and who did the counting?

On view September 11-December 22, weekdays from 12-4 pm.

Grab a drink and a brush and follow along as we walk you, step-by-step, through the evening’s featured painting.

Events run for approximately 2-3 hours with FREQUENT sip breaks. You will leave with a painting that is uniquely yours, and you’ll be amazed at the art you can bring to life.
