With one week to go before Election Day, a Secretary of State office spokesman says two out of every three absentee ballotsMichiganders requested have already been returned to local clerk’s offices.

2.1 million absentee ballotshave been returned in Michigan so far. There’s still roughly a million absentee ballots to be returned.

Jake Rollow is a spokesman for Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. He urges anyone who has not yet returned their absentee ballot to take it to a drop box or their local clerk’s office, rather than send it by mail.

“At this point, one week to Election Day, voters should not be relying on the postal service to deliver their absentee ballot,” says Rollow. “It’s just too close to election day. There have been reports of postal delays throughout the year. We’re just advising voters to take that variable out of the equation.”

Ballots delivered after 8 p.m. on Election Day will not be counted.

Rollow says the state remains on pace to see five million Michiganders cast a ballot in next week’s election.
