Michigan’s recreational marijuana industrycontinues to grow, two months after retail sales became legal.
Michigan voters approved recreational marijuana use in 2018. But retail sales were on hold for more than a year.
Since retail sales became legal December 1, the industry has sold more than $17 million in flower and other cannabis products.
The state's Marijuana Regulatory Agency says last week was the best week yet for Michigan’s fledgling retail recreational marijuana industry.The agency says the industry racked up nearly $2.8 million in sales last week.
An MRA spokesman says the supply of recreational marijuana products continues to improve as more retail licenses are issued.
There are now 43 licensed recreational marijuana retailers in Michigan.
There are also 10 companies with state licenses to grow marijuana for the recreational market.
For the past two months, retailers have relied on cannabis products derived from marijuana originally grown for Michigan’s medical marijuana market. Last year, the MRA allowed retailers to divert up to 50% of their 30 day old medicinal market products into recreational sales.
“(The MRA is) constantly looking at the data to determine if any changes in approach need to happen,” says agency spokesman David Harns.
