Detroit residents will elect a new mayor this year. There's a large field of candidates and it's shaping up to be a competitive race.
Current Mayor Mike Duggan will not seek a fourth term because he's running for governor. Duggan hasn't had serious challenger to lead Detroit since he was first elected in 2013.
Nine Detroiters are running to replace Duggan in the primary election on August 5. It's a nonpartisan race and the top two vote getters will move on to the general election on November 4.
