Invasive carp were detected in the Illinois River only 80 miles from Lake Michigan. The US Army Corp of Engineers ordered a stop-work order on a project to help stop the spread.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker says the Trump administration is playing politics with a billion-dollar barrier under construction to keep invasive carp out of the Great Lakes.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, and state House Speaker Matt Hall, a Republican, brought up the project during a meeting with the president last month.

The $1.1 billion invasive carp barrier needs land that Illinois owns. Governor Pritzker is delaying the land transfer until President Trump assures funding for the project.
