Glass Artist Larry Nisson invites you to take in the sights and sounds of the fabulous glass art garden exhibit located right in the back yard of his Westside Ann Arbor home — and take a piece home with you!

Nisson Glass Art will be hosting its annual garden show and sale, with all proceeds from the show to benefit the Ann Arbor Art Center’s Art in Public Program. The show takes place in Nisson’s back yard- home to a menagerie of beautiful blown and fused glass pieces, colorfully arranged around the flowers, plants, and impressive water feature, that is a visual joy to all who visit!

Since 2018, The Ann Arbor Art Center (A2AC) has served as a catalyst for regional public art through the Art in Public (AiP) program. [they] believe the experience of art should be accessible and equitable to everyone; therefore, [they] collaborate with local organizations, businesses, and individuals to integrate high-quality creativity into the everyday lives of residents and visitors alike.

Also exhibiting work at the show is artist Wendy Bauer-Braun - a landscape painter and woodworker, whose passion for the outdoors inspires her work. Her paintings capture the calm shifts within daily landscapes, painted on wood panels, and complemented by her handmade frames. (Together with her husband, they make fine furniture at their home studio as well.) Wendy’s works have been at venues such as Kerrytown Concert House, Found Gallery in Kerrytown, Westside Art Hop and The Ann Arbor Original Art Fair.

Changes over the course of the nineteenth century in how Americans voted, from voice vote to public ballot box to private voting booth, also saw changes in the material culture that surrounded voting. Ballots and ballot boxes, campaign pins and ribbons, blank lists and pre-printed party tickets, lanterns and banners–the creative forces of the American print industry filled the country’s cities and small towns with the ephemera of electioneering.

As you look at the items in this exhibit, think about what they tell us about how Americans in the past felt about voting, and about how voting felt. How did Election Days feel when they were full of parades and music and public drinking? What was it like to vote when everyone around you knew who you voted for? And, most of all, who counted as a voter, and who did the counting?

Join historian Charlie Shelton for a Historical Speaker Series presentation exploring the Hodge family, their Detroit-based company's role in early automobile manufacturing and the connections between industry, landscape, and everyday life. University of Michigan's Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning is hosting an exhibition of work by John Ronan Architects, led by alumnus John Ronan (B.S. '85) at our Liberty Annex space in downtown Ann Arbor. The exhibition will have Public Hours on Fridays (6-9pm) and Saturdays (1-4pm).

John Ronan Architects is an internationally-recognized design firm based in Chicago and comprised of dedicated design professionals committed to producing architecture of the highest quality, marked by conceptual innovation, exploration of materiality, and a rigorous attention to detail. Led by John Ronan, FAIA, the firm pursues an iterative design methodology to explore and test a wide range of ideas in order to find the response that feels intuitively correct for each situation, based on its unique site, program and context (cultural, historical, economic, social). Working across a wide range of scales and project types, there is a searching quality to the studio’s work which seeks to produce that which is compelling and memorable.

Rochester Christian University and UnCovered Theatre Present Shakespeare Upon Avon: The Winter’s Tale

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – Rochester Christian University Theatre Company presents The Winter’s Tale, as part of the annual award-winning Shakespeare festival, Shakespeare Upon Avon.

Performances of The Winter’s Tale will be September 17-20 and 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. and with matinee on September 20 at 2:30 p.m.. All performances will take place in performance spaces on the campus of Rochester Christian University at 800 W. Avon Road, Rochester Hills, MI 48307. Performances on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays will take place in the outdoor theatre behind Palmer Hall. Accessing the outdoor theatre requires walking down fifteen (15) steps. Sunday performances will take place in our fully accessible, indoor space: the Richardson Academic Center Theater. Tickets are $5 for students and $18 for adults, with discounts available for seniors, veterans, and alumni.
