Several events are planned this week to honor Aretha Franklin who died two weeks ago.

The city of Detroit is celebrating the life of Aretha Franklin this week.

Franklin died two weeks ago at the age of 76.

Events include tributes from famed musicians and political figures who knew Franklin well.

On Tuesday an all-star concert celebrates Franklin’s gospel roots at the New Bethel Baptist Church her father once pastored.

That’s followed by two days of Franklin’s body lying in honor at the Wright Museum of African-American history, which she often visited. There will be a free outdoor concert Wednesday evening.

Franklin’s invitation-only funeral is set for Friday. Guests include musicians Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson as well as former President Bill Clinton.

Church officials say the funeral at Detroit’s Greater Grace Temple – which holds about 4,000 people – will likely be as large and long as the one held for civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks in 2005.

Franklin performed at that service.
